De auteur van dit boek is Lydia Janssen. Zij is juridisch adviseur en gespecialiseerd in jeugdzorg, jeugdrecht en gezondheidsrecht. Ook leidt ze professionals op in de jeugdhulp, de jeugdgezondheidszorg en het sociaal domein. Ook het boek Gezondheidsrecht begrepen uit de serie is door Janssen geschreven.
Het boek begint met een korte inleiding in het recht en behandelt dan het jeugdrecht in vier delen. Eerst wordt het personen- en familierecht behandeld, dan het jeugdstrafrecht, dan de Jeugdwet en dan het internationale jeugdrecht. Het personen- en familierecht en het jeugdstrafrecht worden eerst duidelijk uitgelegd voor de lezer die hierin nog geen basis heeft, voordat wordt ingegaan op de relevante bepalingen voor jeugdigen.
De achtste druk van het boek is uitgebracht in 2022 en brengt de lezers op de hoogte van de huidige situatie van het jeugdrecht. Ook een aantal toekomstige wetten en verwachte ontwikkelingen worden behandeld in het boek.
