EODP Mineduc

English Opens Doors Program (EODP Mineduc) is an English teaching volunteer program supported by the Chilean Ministry of Education. Volunteer positions are coordinated by the National Volunteer Center.

English Opens Doors Program

  • Through the English Opens Doors Program (EODP) volunteers can come to Chili to serve the Chilean youth.
  • The EODP program is aimed at cross-cultural exchange and teaching a high command of English to Chilean students. Volunteers do not need to pay for their volunteering activities. 
  • Volunteers receive support from the organisation; the organisation takes the wishes of the volunteers into account when placing them in different regions of the country. Among others the program includes a Volunteer Orientation Week.

Spotlightvacancy: Committed English teacher in the Chilean region

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Teach English independly to Chilean youth from 10 to 18 years old on public schools; contribute to a significant improvement of their English.
  • Improve and stimulate the speaking and listening skills of the Chilean students
  • Broaden the worldview of the students by sharing about your own culture
  • Spend 24 hours a week in the classroom, 7 hours a week lesson planning, and 4 hours  a week leading an extracurricular activity.
  • Participate in English Camps, Public Speaking competitions, Spelling Bee competitions, and any other initiatives carried out by the English Opens Doors Program.
  • Maintain a superior level of communication with the National Volunteer Center and Regional Representatives. 

Requirements:

  • A volunteer’s primary focus must be 100% on teaching and supporting their students.
  • Take initiative with regards to your personal health, safety and well-being.
  • Be proactive, independent and respectful towards everyone around you.
  • Be a native or near-native English speaker.
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and be between 21 and 35 years old.
  • Be mentally and physically capable of teaching children.
  • Be willing to dedicate their energy and time to teaching and to make students their priority.
  • Have experience living or travelling in another country.
  • Have an interest in Chilean culture and living in a developing country.
  • Be highly committed, responsible, and flexible.
  • Have access to sufficient funds in order to cover personal expenditures throughout the duration of the program.
  • Assume the associated costs (transportation to consulate, cost of obtaining documents) of obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa before arriving in Chile. Direct visa fees from the consulate will be waived.
  • Assume the cost of international transportation to Santiago according to the program start date.
  • Needed competences are among others: professionalism and taking responsibility, being proactive and independent, being tactful

Advantages of the program:

  • Contribute to making a long-lasting impact on the lives of the students
  • TEFL training specific to the volunteer context during a week-long orientation (food and accommodations provided).
  • Online Spanish course.
  • A volunteer allowance of CLP 70,000 per month served (equivalent to CLP 2,333 per day) to reimburse local transportation or other costs related to teaching.
  • Facilitation of a basic Chilean bank account.
  • Accommodations and meals with a host family.
  • Health insurance (in-country).
  • Pre-departure information and support.
  • Airport transfers to accommodations upon arrival for volunteers who arrive on designated dates.
  • Assistance registering the visa and obtaining a Chilean ID card.
  • Round-trip transportation from Santiago to the regional placement site.
  • In-country support from the National Volunteer Center as well as the Regional English Opens Doors Representative.
  • Year-long volunteers receive a week of paid vacation, in addition to regular holidays.
