Czech Republic: Updates & Travel

Travel in Czech Republic?

  • Travel and vacation in the Czech Republic means the ideal combination of beautiful nature and ancient culture. Prague is a must, and Bohemia and the Sumava Mountains are definitely worth it. It is also (still) a cheap holiday destination where food and drinks are affordable.
  • Sumava is the largest mountain area that runs along the southwestern border of the Czech Republic. It is the largest nature reserve in all of Central Europe. The enormous untouched forests stretch over a length of 125 kilometers. There are five natural glacial lakes, the most important of which are Cerne and Gertovo Jezero.
  • Sunbathe on one of the sandy beaches or do water sports at the Lipno (reservoir) lake in the Bohemian Forest.
  • The Bohemian Paradise, called Cesky raj in Czech, is an attractive nature reserve with rugged rock formations and high mountains. The area extends from the edge of the Giant Mountains to the region of Central Bohemia. In the winter, you can go cross-country skiing and alpine skiing here.
  • A visit to Prague is synonymous with an overwhelming amount of art, culture, beauty and history. The castles and churches that can be found throughout the city take you back to the Middle Ages.
  • Olomouc is the city with the most monuments in the Czech Republic after Prague and can rightly call itself 'the pearl of the green cushion' of Moravia. This beautiful, historic city is located in the fertile Hana plain about 300 kilometers east of the capital. It can be divided into the upper square (Horni Namesti) with the old town hall from 1378 and the lower square (Dolni Namesti).
  • The spa town of Karlovy Vary is the largest and most famous spa town in the Czech Republic. It is beautifully situated in the hills of northwestern Bohemia. King Charles IV discovered the springs around 1350 during a deer hunt. At the time, he had a hunting lodge built so that he could take healing baths there himself. JoHorribles in the Czech Republic
  • Be prepared that the Czech food is fatty and very rich. If you are there for a longer period of time, you can try to alternate it with salads.
  • The Czechs are not very good at speaking other languages. Even in the big cities, an English-speaking Czech is a rarity. A dictionary or a travel guide is therefore useful.
