Dit boek is inmiddels een klassieker op het gebied van de klinische neuropsychologie. Het is opgedeeld in drie domeinen. Het eerste domein (hoodfstuk 1 t/m 5) beschrijft alle belangrijke begrippen die je tegenkomt binnen (neuro)psychologisch onderzoek, zoals de diagnostische cyclus en validiteit, maar beschrijft ook beknopt de geschiedenis van de neuropsychologie. In dit domein wordt ook besproken waar een neuropsycholoog in het werkveld terecht kan komen en welke opleidingen hierbij nodig zijn. In het tweede deel (hoofdstuk 6 t/m 13) worden alle belangrijke neurocognitieve processen beschreven, zoals het geheugen, intelligentie, emotie, etc. Elk hoofdstuk in dit domein beschrijft de functies, de neurologie achter de functie en de eventuele stoornissen. Het laatste domein (hoofdstuk 14 t/m 27) behelst de belangrijkste ziektebeelden in de neuropsychologie. In deze hoofdstukken wordt telkens het klinisch beeld toegelicht, wat er in de hersenen gebeurt, wat de symptomen zijn en eventuele behandelingen. Om de ziektebeelden goed te snappen, is het belangrijk dat de eerste twee domeinen goed doorgenomen worden. De eerste auteur van het boek, prof. dr. Roy Kessels, is o.a. hoogleraar neuropsychologie aan de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen. Zijn onderzoek is vooral gericht op geheugen, veroudering, dementie en de bijbehorende diagnostiek. De tweede auteur, dr. Paul Eling is onderzoeker aan het Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. Prof. dr. Rudolf Ponds is klinisch neuropsycholoog en hoogleraar aan het academisch ziekenhuis in Maastricht. Hij is ervaren op het gebied van vroege dementie niet-aangeboren hersenletsel en was voorzitter van de beroepsvereniging van neuropsychologen. Prof. dr. Joke Spikman is hoogleraar medische neuropsychologie, met extra focus op neuropsychologische revalidatie, aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Dr. Martine Zandvoort tenslotte is universitair hoofddocent aan de Universiteit Utrecht voor psychologie en psychologische functieleer.
