The Number one Ladies' Detective Agency written by the Scottish author Alexander McCall Smith is one of my favorites bookseries. It is an easy read and funny. The nice thing is that it is as if you are also in Botswana. The book has been translated in multiple languages, including Dutch.
Alexander McCall Smith has written more than twenty novels about Mma Precious Ramotswe. She is the main character in the book. Mma Ramotswe starts her own detective agency, because she likes to know more about people and wants to solve problems for them. Many different mysteries are solved in the books. You get an insight in the country (Kalahari desert, Gaborone, Mochudi, Molepolole, Francistown), the customs and Mma Rmotswe's life. She sips her rooibos tea every day and has meetings with Mma Makutsi, the only other employee in the Number One Detective Agency. She is courted by the mechanic Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, who fixes her van.
The books has been made into a BBC HBO televison series.
