Volunteering

  • The origins of the SCI go back to 1920 when a number of work projects were initiated to restruct some villages that were damaged by the war. Because people from several countries participated in these projects together it was also a symbol of reconciliation.
  • Over the years the volunteer projects focussed on natural disasters and social themes as well and expanded to countries outside of Europe which made the SCI a truly international organisation.
  • Today the SCI has 42 branches which offer short- and long term volunteer projects where people from all backgrounds can apply for. Besides, the organisation provides education, workshops and seminar to promote awareness around peace and peaceful attitudes.

Programmes

  • The SCI offers several types of programmes, such as workcamps and longterm volunteer projects.
  • Workcamps are short term volunteer projects that are organised by local branches in cooperation with the local communities. Here, people can help with a variety of things such as construction, nature conservation, event organisation and animation.
  • Longterm volunteer projects enable people to live and work in another culture for 1 til 12 months. The projects are open for anyone above 18 and provide food and accommodation.
