Deze studie onderzoekt of bepaalde persoonlijkheidskenmerken corresponderen met muzieksmaak en of bepaalde persoonlijkheidskenmerken de fascinatie van jonge mensen voor uitdagende muziek kan verklaren.
Hypothesen:
Mensen die rebels zijn zullen meer tijd steken in het luisteren van uitdagende muziek dan mensen die weinig van dit kenmerk bevatten.
Mensen die de kenmerken provocatieve rebelsheid en ontremming bevatten zullen eerder naar uitdagende muziek luisteren dan mensen die laag scoren op deze kenmerken.
Mensen die de kenmerken reactieve rebelsheid en vijandigheid bevatten zullen eerder naar uitdagende muziek luisteren dan mensen die laag scoren op deze kenmerken.
Proactieve rebelsheid en ontremming zijn meer gerelateerd aan uitdagende muziek dan reactieve rebelsheid en vijandigheid.
Er deden in het totaal 56 participanten mee aan het onderzoek waarvan er 19 man en 37 vrouw zijn. De gemiddelde leeftijd voor vrouwen was 19.5 en voor mannen 20.9. Als eerst moesten de participanten persoonlijkheidsvragenlijsten invullen. Daarna moeten ze uit een lijst van liedjes een aantal liedjes kiezen.
Belangrijke resultaten:
Participanten die hoog scoorden op rebelsheid kozen inderdaad vaker uitdagende muziek.
Boze individuen zullen eerder van nog heftigere muziek houden dan de rock enz. in de top 40.
