Intro

Backpacking or traveling in Zambia?

  • Zambia, the country of the famous Victoria Falls. But of course the country has much more to offer, especially in the field of nature. Tourism is growing, with lodges and activities springing up everywhere. Perhaps the next tourist hotspot of Africa! In addition, the population is also incredibly friendly and it is one of the safest countries in Africa. We can name 100 reasons to go to Zambia, but in the end you have to discover it yourself!
  • Spotting activities: well, the Victoria Falls of course, but did you know that you can even swim in the water? And further: stay in a luxury safari lodge; admire the fruit bat migration; spot the African leopard in South Luangwa National Park; go on a sustainable walking safari in one of the many nature reserves; visit the more remote wilderness; go on a night drive through a national park and spot nocturnal animals such as civets and honey badgers; contribute to sustainable projects and learn about the Zambian way of life; walk through Livingstone. Spotting animals: elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, wild dogs, buffalos, hippos, zebras, crocodiles, shoebills.
  • Spotting food: nshima, ifisashi, kapenta, chikanda, impwa, mopane worms (yes, really), t-bone steak, samp and beans, vitumbuwa, munkoyo.

Studying in Zambia?

  • Zambia has several universities and colleges that offer a wide range of good and interesting studies. The University of Zambia in Lusaka is the largest and most prestigious institution. Zambia is interesting if you want to learn more about African nature and wildlife, or for example ecotourism. Furthermore, studies such as medicine, engineering, agriculture, mining and business are popular.
  • Study cities: Lusaka, Ndola.
  • Language: English.

Internships in Zambia?

  • There are several internship opportunities in Zambia. For example, you can gain practical experience in nature conservation, community development, health care and wildlife management. You can also work in the tourism sector or at companies.
  • Competencies: intercultural communication, adaptability, leadership, problem-solving skills.

Volunteering in Zambia?

  • As a volunteer, you can make a good contribution in Zambia and the language barrier is a lot smaller because people speak English. For example, contribute to projects in the field of sustainability, education, healthcare, community development, women's emancipation and chimpanzee protection.

Working in Zambia?

  • There are various jobs for foreigners in Zambia. For example, you can work as an expert in the mining industry, work in tourism, in education as a teacher or professor, at NGOs and development organizations or in healthcare.
  • Work culture: formal, but also relaxed and friendly, especially towards expats. There is no real rush and deadlines are a vague concept. So it can take some getting used to!

Working as a digital nomad in Zambia?

  • In Zambia you can certainly find a good experience as a digital nomad if you like a bit of (African) adventure. You will find Starlink, many cafes and especially in Lusaka a large expat community. And even better, your zoom call might be photobombed by one of the many wild animals of the country.
  • Favorite locations: Lusaka, Livingstone.

Living in Zambia?

  • Living in Zambia is a unique experience and especially attractive for nature lovers and people who are interested in African culture. The country is one of the safest countries in Africa and therefore also attractive to many expats.
  • If you love nature, Zambia is the place to be, it is one of the best countries for spotting wildlife during your working day, the people are very hospitable, it is safe and you learn a slow pace of life, but… healthcare is still limited, the infrastructure outside the big cities can be underdeveloped and the hot summers and diseases like malaria can also put people off.
  • Education: there are good options for international schools.
  • The expat community is growing and active! Safety: we said it already, it is certainly quite safe, but it is still good to stay informed about local conditions.
  • Sometimes you have to go to South Africa for complex health treatments. So make sure you have your own good health insurance.

Travel in Zambia

  • For the traveler who loves nature, Zambia is an ideal country. It is a country full of nature parks with an enormous diversity of animals, including special birds. Swim in the water of the Victoria Falls or go on safari and see amazing wild animals (including lions, elephants, leopards, hippos, crocodiles). The people of Zambia are known for their friendliness and hospitality and the food tastes delicious.
  • Go bird watching in one of the national parks.
  • Go rafting or canoeing on the Zambezi (on the border with Zimbabwe)
  • See the rare blue monkey in the Kasanka National Park. This is one of the smaller national parks, but certainly no less beautiful.
  • Are you a fan of extreme sports? Visit the Livingstone. Including bungee jumping (from a height of 111 meters) and abseiling (over a gorge).
  • Visit one of the national parks: North and South Luangwa National Park, Kafue National Park (the second largest national park in the world) and the parks near the Zambezi.
  • Check the oldest copper mine in Zambia, near Luanshya.
  • Go to Lusaka, the capital, with the Kabwate Cultural Village (an open-air museum about Zambian culture) and the impressive cathedral.
  • Be prepared regarding the safety in Lusaka.
  • Watch out: be aware that cars drive on the left.
