5th of May, Liberation festivals The Netherlands
Liberation day is one of the biggest festival days in the Netherlands. On this day, the 5th of May, we celebrate our liberation from the German occupation during the second worldwar. This day has been a day of celebration ever since. Whereas before the celebrations took place every five years, now the country turns into a festival place every year. We don't only celebrate our freedom due to the end of the second world war, but we also try to appreciate how lucky we are that we live in a safe environment.
So, wanna join in on the celebrations? Here are some places you can go to:
Wageningen
Wageningen has the biggest bevrijdingsfestival (liberation festival). Here the "Orders on the surrender" were signed. The festival starts at 12 and takes place until midnight. With 7 stages and many great Dutch artists spread out throughout the city, this is bound to become a beautiful, fun, crazy day on which you can also see the beautiful old town of Wageningen. Furthermore, there are also fun things for kids!

Utrecht
Bevrijdingsfestival in Utrecht is a bit smaller and different. It takes place in a park (park Transwijk), where you can find four stages with a lot of great artists. It's more focussed on teens and adults and has a really typical festival vibe. It starts at 13:00 and lasts until midnight.

Amsterdam
Bevrijdingsfestival in Amsterdam also has a totally different vibe. While there is one big festival spot, "Het Vrije Westen" in the Westergasfabriek with many big acts and workshops and foodtrucks, there are also a lot of smaller events happening such as the "liberation dancing festival" on museum square, liberation celebration at the gay monument and many more! So if you're up for smaller and cute festivals, definitely have a look on the liberation day Amsterdam website.
If you're in any other place in the Netherlands, there are definitely many more festivals so be sure to check if there's one around where you are through this website: https://www.bevrijdingsfestivals.nl/
