Travel in Russia?
- As the largest country in the world, Russia has a lot to offer. Russia has different climates, which makes the landscape vary from tundra to snow-capped mountains. The contrast between rich and poor is clearly visible: poor farms are in stark contrast to limousines in Moscow. In addition to the largest and most popular cities Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia has beautiful nature. Lake Baikal, the Caucasus and the Kuril Archipelago are unique in their kind. In short, Russia offers a great diversity that fascinates every traveler.
- Hike the Great Baikal Trail around Lake Baikal, the world's deepest freshwater lake. If you want to go around the lake, it will take you some time, because the coast is 2,000 kilometers long.
- Visit the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. The Hermitage is also located here. The summer palace (Catherine Palace) is located about 25 kilometers outside the city. Visit Yakutsk in Siberia in June. The surreal festival Ysyakh takes place, with lots of traditional music, and 'throat singing' competitions.
- Visit the body of Lenin. His mausoleum is on the Kremlin in Moscow and is so impressive that it will send shivers down your spine.
- The highest mountain in Europe is Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus. From the top of the mountain, you can actually look down on the rest of the continent.
- Moscow with the Bolshoi Theatre, Red Square, the Kremlin and a fantastic nightlife.
- St. Petersburg with the golden St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Yusupov Palace is perhaps best seen during a canal cruise.
- Vladivostok is a lot further east than St. Petersburg and Moscow but is a beautiful city, which is also close to the beach.
- Take a plane to Yelizovo in the Russian Far East (about 11 hours flight from Moscow). Here you will find the Kamchatka Peninsula, a volcanic area with over 200 volcanoes. Lava fields and hot springs are common here and provide fantastic views.
