Maitreya Mountain Village

Maitreya Mountain Village is a community located in the Siskiyou Mountains which focusses on permaculture to promote a sustainable and natural lifestyle. 

In 2023 a forest fire destructed the whole village, it is uncertain whether the community is still active and open to volunteers

Sustainable living

  • The Maitreya Mountain Village was founded from the ideology that people should strive to live in a more sustainable, community-based way. 
  • Since 2008, the community has built a self-sustained village where people can live in harmony with nature, mainly focussing on permaculture and wildcrafting.
  • The community also undertakes different projects to develop the village, such as beekeeping, cultivating fruit trees and animal husbandry. 
  • The organisation promotes living in a community in order to decrease the ecological footprint and increase the connection with like-minded people and nature.

  • It is possible to work at the village if you become a resident. See the membership options at the website for the different possibilities and conditions.

Internships

  • It is possible to do an internship at the village. You can for example gain experience in the field of animal care, water management, agriculture or research. Fill in and send the visitor application form on the website to apply.
