Intro

Backpacking or traveling in Norway?

  • Norway, the land of reindeer, pristine nature, expensive shopping and beautiful walks. Norway is particularly a country for nature lovers. As a backpacker, it's a more challenging country because of the cost and the sometimes awkward public transportation, but if you take a tent for wild camping and hitchhiking, it's not too bad!
  • Activity spotting: sail along the fjords, hike through one of the impressive nature reserves and sleep in a cabin or camp in the wild, try skiing or cross-country skiing in one of the many popular areas, explore Oslo and visit the royal palace and the viking ship museum, see the old wooden houses of mountains and go climbing on one of the natural climbing walls, visit the lofoten islands, see the northern lights and take the train from Flåm to Myrdal.

Study in Norway?

  • Norway is known for its high quality of education. There is a huge number of studies to choose from and many of the institutions are research-oriented. For EU residents, education is also free. Popular fields of study include technology and engineering, environment and sustainability, health sciences, business administration, arts and culture.
  • Study culture: there is a lot of collaboration and active student participation is important. Teachers encourage students to conduct independent research and critical thinking.
  • Study cities: Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger.
  • Language: Norwegian is the main language, with a strong growing offer in English.

Internship in Norway?

  • There are an awful lot of internships available. For example, you can search in engineering, IT and energy, but also in the fields of environment and sustainability, healthcare, business and arts and culture.
  • Competencies: English and Norwegian language skills, research skills, team-oriented work, promoting inclusiveness, flexibility, working efficiently, open communication.

Volunteer in Norway?

  • There are not many temporary, full-time volunteering options, except if you are helping in and around the home/organization at private homes, for example. However, there are many opportunities for volunteering alongside a job or study. This is even part of Norwegian culture and is called “dugnad.”

Working in Norway?

  • It is not very easy to find a job as a foreigner in Norway. You can look in all kinds of sectors including tourism, fishing, oil & gas, and seasonal work in agriculture.
  • Work culture: equality is important. So there is little hierarchy and people are not very formal. The organizational structure is often flat and people interact informally. Cooperation and trust are important.

Working as a digital nomad in Norway?

  • Hello high quality of life, hello high cost! Norway is safe, beautiful and the environment is clean. The facilities are good with reliable internet and more and more coworking spots.
  • The downside, however, is that it is one of the most expensive countries in Europe and the Norwegian climate can be quite challenging.
  • Favorite locations: Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim.

Living in Norway?

  • The land of natural wonders, beautiful Fjords and one of the happiest peoples in the world. Doesn't sound wrong, and it isn't! In Norway you enjoy a good quality of life where you are close to nature every day, where gender equality is a core value, and where a good work-life balance is very important.
  • Healthcare is of high quality and it is also one of the safest countries in the world.
  • Read more about health insurance when staying in Norway for a long time.
  • The main disadvantages are that Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world, the language is not too easy to learn and winters are so cold, that some people are killed due to the temperature.
