China, what an interesting country. At least that is what I conclude after reading Wikipedia (luckily not blocked here), hearing stories “don't eat food that seems to be too cheap as it could be rat meat instead of chicken”, and gazing at surreal beautiful pictures of uncountable temples, hutongs, nature, and of course the great wall of China.
In less than two weeks I will start my China trip! Yeah, I hear you thinking.. what the heck is she going to do over there? Well, I am going to work at China-Inside for two months to gain some work experience. China-Inside, located in Beijing, is an organisation involved in a wide range of activities from language courses, excursions/tours to business relations. Curious?
As a World Supporter I've been looking up info on China's progress towards the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). One aspect I definetely want to share with you is the fact that China's achievements in poverty reduction are so huge that it has contributed extensively to the global poverty alleviation. If China puts some more effort in full & productive employment and decent work for all it will accomplish goal 1 completely. In short, according to MDGs report 2013 for China: goals 2, 3, 4, and 8 are met and 1, 5, 6, and 7 still face some serious challenges. (Have a look at the YouTube movie for explanation about the MDGs)
Well as China only has 2 months left to tackle these deviances, I only have one and a half week to get everything on track before I leave... like arranging my visa!
So for now, I am going to turn off my laptop and take the first steps on my journey “from The Hague to Beijing”.
