Organizations: for mediation in au pairs, childcare and elderly care in the Netherlands

Are you interested in learning about the Dutch language and culture? Become an au pair in the Netherlands. As an au pair, you will temporarily move to the Netherlands to live with a host family. Most au pairs stay with a host family for 12 months, but sometimes a shorter stay is agreed upon. During this time, you will take care of the children and do light housework. You will be treated as part of the family, not as staff. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to see and learn a lot about the language, culture, and customs of the Netherlands.
Because you are a full member of the family, it goes without saying that you will join the family on day trips or other fun activities. The main purpose of working as an au pair is to experience a different culture and learn from it. In some cases, you will be placed with a family from the same country as you and help to teach the children about your own culture. This creates a cultural exchange between the au pair and the host family.
Many of the families you will be working for will be quite wealthy and live in larger homes than the average Dutch person with a busy lifestyle. It will be your job to take care of the often young children during the days when their parents are at work. Your daily tasks may include preparing breakfast, lunch, and tea, helping the children get dressed and undressed, taking them to and from school, and playing with them. You may also be asked to do light housework such as vacuuming, dusting, washing, and ironing. You will be working at least half of the week, including weekends and evenings.
Many au pairs in the Netherlands come from outside Europe, for example from South Africa, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, or Nepal. European au pairs who choose a Dutch host family often come from Spain, Italy, and France. There may be other au pairs working in your area, whom you can ask for advice and help if necessary. Of course, there will also be plenty of free time to meet up with them and explore the city and the country.
