Veel mensen maken zich meer zorgen dan nodig is, maar er is een heel spectrum van zorgen maken en obsessie. Bij ongeveer 8% van de mensen is de mate van angst heftig genoeg om professionele hulp nodig te hebben. De angst wordt dan een angststoornis genoemd.
