De timmerwerkplaats in Alotenango biedt de kinderen naast de gewone lessen creatieve vorming en alvast wat voorbereiding op vakonderwijs. Het laat de kinderen ontdekken dat ze zelf iets kunnen bedenken en maken. Ze leren met gereedschappen omgaan, schetsjes maken en overbrengen op het materiaal, zorgvuldig en veilig werken. Spelenderwijs leren ze zo ook beter lezen, rekenen en meetinstrumenten gebruiken. Doordat ze eigen keuzes gaan maken en hun werkstukken onder hun handen zien groeien, krijgen de kinderen meer en meer zelfvertrouwen. Bovendien worden de werkstukken verkocht om inkomsten voor nieuwe materialen te genereren. En de spiegels en kandelaars vliegen de deur uit!
