G (general intelligence): Cognitieve processen die invloed hebben op de vaardigheid om te denken en te leren op alle intellectuele taken
Fluid intelligence: de vaardigheid om ter plekke problemen op te lossen.
Crystallized intelligence: feitelijke kennis over de wereld.
Primary mental abilities: vaardigheden die volgens Thurstone cruciaal zijn voor intelligentie (woordvloeiendheid, verbale betekenis, redeneren, ruimtelijke visualisatie, tellen, geheugen en perceptuele snelheid).
Three-stratum theory of intelligence: het model van Carroll dat de ‘g’ boven aan de top van de intelligentie hiërarchie plaatst, daarna acht algemenere vaardigheden in het midden en onderaan specifiekere processen.
IQ (intelligence quotient): kwantitatieve meeteenheid, met een gemiddelde van 100 en sd van 15, dat wordt gebruikt om een indicatie te geven van de intelligentie van een kind, in vergelijking met dat van andere kinderen van dezelfde leeftijd.

Phonemic awareness: vaardigheid om geluidscomponenten in woorden te identificeren.

Strategy-choice process: het selecteren van de juiste strategie om een probleem op te lossen.

Comprehension monitoring: het bijhouden van wat iemands begrip van een verbale beschrijving of tekst is.
Dyslexia: het onvermogen om te lezen en spellen ondanks het hebben van een normale intelligentie.
Script: een opeenvolging van acties om herhaaldelijke gebeurtenissen te interpreteren
Numerical magnitude representations: mentale modellen van de grootte van cijfers, geordend langs een weinig-naar-meer dimensie.
Mathematical equality: de waarde aan de ene kant van de som, moeten gelijk zijn met de waarde(n) aan de andere kant. (voor en na ‘=’ moet gelijk zijn).
Gesture-speech mismatches: een fenomeen waarbij iemands handbewegingen niet overeenkomen met de verbale statements.
