Summaries in English for first year IBP students
3rd period (2nd semester)
The exams in April (2018) are going to be on the following courses:
- Experimental and Correlational Research (E& CR)
- Social and Organizational Psychology (S&O)
- Developmental and Educational Psychology (D&E)
These are the books used for the summaries:
E&CR:
- Howell, D.C. (2014). Statistical Methods for Psychology (Leiden edition). Wadsworth: Cengage Learning.
- Pallant, J. (2016). SPSS Survival Manual. Berkshire: McGraw-Hill.
S&O:
- Baron, R. A., & Branscombe, N. R. (2017). Social Psychology (14th edition). Pearson.
- George, J. M., & Jones, G. R. (2012). Understanding and managing organizational behavior (6th edition). Pearson.
D&E:
- Siegler, R., Saffran, J., Eisenberg, N., DeLoache, J., & Gershoff, E. (2017). How Children Develop (5th edition). New York: Worth Publishers
Where can you find these summaries?
Joho:
https://www.joho.org/en/holland
At Joho you can find the summaries for all these courses, however the Organizational Psychology part of the S&O Psychology is missing. The summaries are based on the relevant book and they have lots of practice questions with answers to prepare you for the exam. The summaries are bullet-point-style.
The D&E and Social Psychology summaries are 8-10 pages long. The E+CR summary is divided into two bundles: Statistical Methods- explains theory (57 pages because it has all the information from the 3 blocks in chronological order) and Experimental and Correlational Research- practice questions with answers (44 pages).
Price for one summary: €5 (€4.25 for members)
WorldSupporter:
https://www.worldsupporter.org/en#summaries
On this website you can look for summaries relevant to the courses you are taking. As a psychology student I recommend following these two members for sure:
Psychologie world supporter: https://www.worldsupporter.org/en/profile/world-supporter-psychologie
Sociale Wetenschappen world supporter: https://www.worldsupporter.org/en/profile/world-supporter-sociale-wetenschappen
There are not many summaries in English yet, but with a bit of searching you can usually find something that is useful for you.
If you are a member of Joho, all summaries you can find on WorldSupporter are free. There are many free summaries here for only WorldSupporter members too (you can make an account for free).
Stuvia
Stuvia summaries are written by university students. This could be beneficial because they attend lectures and know what to look out for.

AthenaSummary:
I didn’t find any summaries for this block at Athena, but it is useful to keep an eye out for this site. The link takes you to the page of English psychology summaries for Leiden University students. I will update this page as soon as I see any summaries for this block.
If you have to take any resits from the previous block, you can buy those (very detailed) summaries from this website.
Advice:
To test your knowledge you can also use flashcards from Quizlet (e.g.: https://quizlet.com/subject/How-Children-Develop-Siegler/)
If you know someone who writes good summaries, ask them to consider uploading their summaries on one of these websites so they can earn some money or just help other students.

I came across this useful insight blog, based on the courses from last period. Maybe you could add something similar to your most recent blog about the current courses, that would be much appreciated! :) Thanks
