Intro

Backpacking or travelling in Belarus?

  • Belarus, or Belarus as the locals call it, is known for its endless forests, hidden castles and a journey back in time. Think Soviet architecture, villages where time seems to have stood still and beautiful landscapes. It is also quite affordable and quite off-the-beaten-track.
  • Spotting activities: explore Minsk; spot wild bison in Białowieża National Park; imagine yourself in a fairy tale in Mir Castle; visit Njasvizj Castle; learn about Brest Fortress; relax at the Minsk Sea, an artificial lake.
  • Spotting animals: European bison, elk, wolf, beaver, roe deer, eagle owl.
  • Spotting food: draniki, machanka, kletski, babka, salo, kolduny, kvass.

Studying in Belarus?

  • There are several relatively good universities with a wide range of study options. You can follow high-quality courses for an affordable price.
  • Study cities: Minsk, Brest, Grodno.
  • Language: Belarusian and Russian, but also programs in English.

Internship in Belarus?

  • It is not easy to find an internship in Belarus. You may find options in IT, medical sector or at cultural institutions.
  • Competencies: practical skills, cultural adaptation and language skills.

Volunteer in Belarus?

  • There are not many options for volunteering in Belarus.

Work in Belarus?

  • You can find a job in IT and technology most easily. In addition, there are jobs for experts in agriculture, construction, sales, logistics etc.

Work as a digital nomad in Belarus?

  • Low cost of living and good internet, but it can be a challenge to get a visa, for example. So it is not a really popular digital nomad country.
  • Favorite locations: Minsk, Brest, Grodno.

Living in Belarus?

  • There aren’t many expats in Belarus, but those who are are generally found in Minsk. It’s a beautiful city, life is affordable, but the country itself is very state-regulated and you may need to speak Russian.
  • Education: there are limited opportunities for international education.
  • Expat community: small.
  • Be aware: there is a language barrier and bureaucracy can be complex.
  • Health insurance: healthcare is often less good than in Western Europe and some expats go abroad for treatment. So make sure you have your own health insurance with good coverage.
