Cafe Hopping in... Seoul! 15 Cafes to visit

Hello friends! welcome to the cafe hopping series.  Before I dive into the places I wanted to say that I HAD to do this series, since South Korea's coffee culture is a whole culture itself! 

1. Joy Coffee Bar (조이 커피바)

Adress: South-Korea, Gyonggi-do, Hanam-si, Misa-daero, 410 Obelisk Shopping Center Room 214 (in front of the laundry room)

This is a small Aussie style cafe in Seoul, where you can enjoy different types of coffee. They also serve other drinks such as matcha latte and hot chocolate. You can enjoy some desserts along you cup of coffee as well. Overall a nice place to go cafe hopping or to get your work done, so when you are in the Hannam-dong area, feel free to stop by. Fun fact: the owner of the cafe is actually also a "cafe vlogger"! If you want to take a look before you visit the cafe in person, I suggest that you take a look at their YouTube videos. 

 

2. Aya Coffee (아야커피)

This cafe's name actually stands for milk in Korean, which is "우유" (uyu). They got their concept by rotating the letters 90 degrees, which will give you "아야" (aya). This is again a cute and aesthetic cafe that specializes in coffee. They also have a lot of other options available and serve different desserts as well. This cafe also has a YouTube channel where they post video's about their cafe days. 

 

3. Greem Cafe ()

Adress: 161-10 Seongmisan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 1.5th floor of Cafe

Area: Mapo-gu, Yeonnam-dong | Instagram: @greem_cafe

This cafe is probably the most unique in this cafe series and is also known as 2D cafe. The interior might make you feel like you just walked into a comic book. The cafe is inspired by the Korean drama W, in which the main character finds out that he had been living in a comic novel and goes back and forth between the real world and the comic novel. Everything in the cafe looks like it's 2D and is well designed. They have a wide variety of drinks you can choose form and they also serve dessert/pastries/cake. Good to know: this cafe has more locations throughout South Korea, but I obviously chose the Yeonnam-dong branch since this one is located in Seoul. 

 

4. Cafe Onion (어니언 안국점)

Adress: 5 Gyedong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Area: Seongsu-dong, near Anguk station | Instagram: @cafe.onion

Although this cafe has more locations in Seoul, I chose to mention the one near Anguk station. This is a Hanok themed cafe and is located in a traditional Hanok (a traditional Korean house/ building) and you must take your shoes off before you take a seat in the cafe. Because it's a traditional building, you need to take a seat on the floor (they do have mats and pillows of course). This cafe offers lots of different drinks and can also be seen as a bakery cafe, since they also have different baked goods available. You just need to take a tray, choose your bakings and order your drinks at the counter. 

 

5. Nuldam Space

There are actually two branches of this cafe in Seoul, one in Jongno-gu and the other in Yongsan-gu. The concept is that you can write letters to your future self (or loved ones) while enjoying a cup of coffee and their desserts. Good news for vegans: this cafe is vegan friendly! 

 

6. Mamma Mia (도산맘마미아)

Adress: 45, Apgujeong-ro 42-gil, Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea

This is a very eye-catching bakery & brunch cafe. There is plenty of desserts and baked goods to choose from and they also sell drinks. Beware that the menu changes overtime but that doesn't change the amount of food. This cafe is a little more on the "not-so-cheap" side and you must get a drink if you want to eat dessert. This cafe has a "doll house" theme (not the creepy side) and the interior is very nice. Decorations include Disney themed merch.

 

7. Bakery and Coffee by Kundal (베이커리 & 커피 by 쿤달)

Area: Apgujeong, 3 minute walk from the Apgujeong Station| Instagram: @cafe.kundal

This cafe is a cafe that made its appearance in the popular Korean Drama "True Beauty". The bakery cafe is run by the Korean cosmetics brand "Kundal" and has a rather hip interior. You can choose between different bakings and desert as well as different drinks. 

 

8. Butter Book Cafe

Adress: First floor, 31-2 Yongsan-dong 2-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Area: Yongsan-2ga neighborhood near Noksapyeong Station | Instagram: @butterbook.kr 

This cafe has a very scenic look and is overall very cute. Lying in the corner of the street, the yellow color can really bright up your day and mood. Its a grab and go concept but there is space to eat inside and outside the cafe as well, although there isn't much space available since this is a small cafe. So perfect for if you want to enjoy a nice dessert and coffee while exploring the neighborhood. The dessert options are mouthwatering and they also have a good amount of coffee/drinks available. 

 

9. Style Nanda Pink Pool Cafe

Area: Myeongdong branch: Jung-gu near Myeongdong shopping district | Instagram: @pinkpoolcafe

Get you camera/mobile phone camera ready for this instagram worthy cafe! There are actually two branches of this cafe, one in Myeongdong and the other in Hongdae. The interior is very aesthetic and gives you the feel that you are staying in a hotel. there is also a pool inside the cafe which is nice to take photo's at. The cafe is actually from the Korean clothing brand "Stylenanda". The Cafe in Myeongdong is actually located in the Stylenanda store and is relatively smaller than the one in Hongdae. The menu has its fair share of coffee, non coffee drinks, tea, dessert and cake. 

 

10. Moment Coffee (모멘트커피)

This is a Japanese style themed cafe in Seoul. What also makes this cafe really cute is the mascotte on their packaging, food and cups! (its a "stamp" of the outline of the mascotte). This cafe has also two branches, one in Hongdae and the other in Yeonnam-dong. Although the Yeonnam-dong branch openend first, the Hongdae branch is more specious and has a very Kyoto like appearance. There is different types of coffee and baked goods available, but mind you: the 2nd branch (Hongdae) has more things on their menu which you can't get at the Yeonnam branch.

Are you craving for cute food or just feeling cute? Then you really need to visit Cafe Skön! This cafe offers cute desserts with little cute faces and it can really uplift your day. This is a place where you can take many pictures as well, because the cafe is a 4 story building and also has a terrace, rooftop terrace and an instagrammable interior. The cafe offers a wide range of nice desserts and has a good amount of drinks that you can choose from. Their milk tea is very popular so if you want to pass on your caffeine intake for the day, that would be a nice alternative. What is also nice is tht you can buy cute items at the cafe so this is your chance to get cute stationery / gifts and enjoy food and drinks.

 

12. London Bagel Museum (런던 베이글 뮤지엄)

Not such a sweet tooth or just feeling like you want something more savory? Then the London Bagel museum cafe is for you! As you can see, this bakery style cafe also has 2 branches. The most popular of the two is the one in Anguk. But both of them are actually frequently visited by visitors. You can choose from an assortment of bagels with very unique flavors. They also sell different cream cheese spreads that you could put on your bagel as well. The interior will make you feel like you're somewhere in London, with English themed decorations. 

 

13. Teddy's Oven (테디스오븐)

This cage has super nice desserts, ranging from ice cream to cakes and tarts. They also offer coffee and other non caffeine drinks. A lot of their bakings are inspired by France and are also very cute. The outdoor seating is very cute and is also very popular. It's a two story building with a terrace available as well.

This cafe is famous for its scones and cakes, which they have a lot of different kinds of. The Yeonnam branch is a two story cafe while the Bukcheon branch is a traditional Hanok. 

 

15. Mooni (무니 압구정본점)

This is also a very cute bakery cafe with an amazing terrace and a very aesthetic rooftop! It is also a very popular 3 story place. There is lots of desserts and drinks you can choose from which are also very eye catching. The interior reminds you of a pastel dollhouse and will earn you beautiful pictures.
