Sustainability and traveling

There are many ways in which travelers can contribute to a more sustainable environment. Travelers themselves of course can do this in many different ways, WorldSupporter.org is full of inspiration for this! Hannah Low for example wrote down some tips to reduce your carbon footprint while traveling, Lisalotte tries to eat vegetarian food as much as possible (great!), and Lisette urges us to stop using sunscreens that are damaging to coral.

Another way is to buy sustainable travel gear. Eagle Creek for example produces travel gear with a life long warranty. An Eagle Creek bag can be your travel companion for over 20 years; bags are really solid and wear down really slowly over time. The product are designed to be used in the outdoors, or like they state it themselves: "products can handle real-world travel abuses". If a product fails you anyway, Eagle Creek prefers to repair a bag and not trow it away, in order to prevent waste.

Also, products are never made out of (Toxic) PVC. In stead recycled PVB is being used. For example, the fabric that protects everthing inside your Eagle Creek bag from getting wet in the rain, could have been a car window in its former life!

Last, but not least, Eagle Creek has eliminated all plastics, including clamshells, inserts, and other materials from our packaging. Every piece of packaging contains 70% or more of post-consumer waste, which recycles discarded waste.

So my tip to try and travel sustainably, invest in sturdy travel gear, preferable produced by a company that cares fot sustainability and the environment. Eagle Creek is one of those companies, but of course (luckily!) not the only one. More and more intitiatives that promote a sustainable environment are being developed.
