Summary Motivational Interviewing and Self–Determination Theory

Motivational Interviewing and adaptations of motivational interviewing (AMIs) have become extensively accepted as a counseling style changing maladaptive behaviours such as problems with alcohol and drugs, smoking cessation, HIV prevention among drug users, and other behaviours, mostly in a clinical setting. Motivational Interviewing has evolved from clinical experience in the treatment of alcohol abuse and was first described by Miller (1983). The problem with Motivational Interviewing is that it lacks theoretical underpinnings. This article proposes that Self Determination Theory offers theoretical framework for a better understanding of its processes and effectiveness.

1.1 Inleiding: Wat is psychodiagnostiek?

In de psychodiagnostiek analyseren we het gedrag, de gedachten en de emoties van mensen op een systematische manier, om het te begrijpen en te voorspellen.

In de literatuur worden vijf basisvragen binnen de psychodiagnostiek onderscheiden. Vragen naar:

Onderkenning - een onderkennende vraag is bijvoorbeeld: ‘Is er sprake van een depressieve-stemmingsstoornis?’. Het probleem wordt in kaart gebracht en nauwkeurig beschreven.

Verklaring - bij verklarende vragen is het doel om erachter te komen hoe we de vastgestelde problematiek ontstaan is en in stand gehouden wordt, met behulp van verschillende, elkaar aanvullende theorieën.

Predictie - predictieve vragen hebben betrekking op de voorspelling van gedrag

Indicatie - Indicatievragen hebben als centraal thema of er iets aan de problemen gedaan moet worden en, zo ja, wat dan.
