Universiteit van Amsterdam Colleges: Constitutioneel Recht, Evenredigheidsstelsels en Meerderheidsstelsels
Nederland kent een evenredigheidsstelsel. Zo heeft, bij de vorige verkiezingen, de VVD 26.58% van de stemmen en daarmee 227.33% van de zetels. Er zijn wel afrondingsverschillen. Evenveel zetels als kiezers, dan zou er complete evenredigheid zijn. Het aantal kiezers is vele malen groter dan het aantal te verdelen zetels. Nederland kent een kiesdrempel van 0.67 . Om één zetel te behalen heb je dus 0.67% van de stemmen nodig. Voordat je de Tweede Kamer binnen kunt komen, dien je dus eerst een volle zetel behaald te hebben. In Nederland stem je op een specifieke kandidaat van een partij. Kenden wij een districtenstelsel in 2010, dan waren er slechts vijf partijen overgebleven. Op elk onderwerp per fractie is maar één woordvoerder. Het gezamenlijke standpunt wordt naar voren gebracht.
Het Verenigd Koninkrijk kent een meerderheidsstelsel. Het land is in kiesdistricten ingedeeld. Er zijn 650 zetels en 650 districten. Met een meerderheid wordt er per district een afgevaardigde uitgezonden. Het gaat niet om een absolute meerderheid (50 + 1), maar een eenvoudige meerderheid. Er wordt vaak verteld dat tussen deze afgevaardigde en de kiezers een sterkere persoonlijke band is. Coalitievorming is makkelijker dan in Nederland. Er zijn namelijk in aantallen minder partijen, daarentegen zijn ze ook vaak heel groot. Je krijgt waarvoor je hebt gestemd (geen regeerprogramma, geen compromissen sluiten). Door een slimme indeling van de kiesdistricten, kan de uitslag worden beïnvloed. Er is in dit stelsel geen sprake van evenredigheid. Zo haalden de conservatieven bijvoorbeeld 36.9% van de stemmen, maar wel 51.1% van de zetels. Vergelijk laatstgenoemde met de Nederlandse situatie! De meeste compromissen worden eigenlijk al gesloten bij het stemmen. Er zijn een x aantal kandidaten, maar je weet al dat er maar een beperkte kans dat er een klein aantal kans maakt. Je keuze wordt dan beperkt, je kiest dan eerder op een partij die minder je voorkeur heeft, maar meer kans maakt. In Nederland kun je veel eenvoudiger, niet benadeeld, stemmen op een kleinere partij. Er gaan dus geen stemmen verloren.
Ook bij een kiesdrempel zul je eerder op een grotere partij stellen. Echter zijn er later in het proces wel minder compromissen nodig.

- The topics and taxonomy of the study and working fields gives you insight in the amount of summaries that are tagged by authors on specific subjects. This type of navigation can help find summaries that you could have missed when just using the search tools. Tags are organised per field of study and per study institution. Note: not all content is tagged thoroughly, so when this approach doesn't give the results you were looking for, please check the search tool as back up
