Antwoorden

  1. Onderzoekers die werkzaam zijn onder ‘human performance’ zijn geïnteresseerd in het karakteriseren van de processen binnen de menselijke component van een systeem. Ze zijn dus alleen geïnteresseerd in het opdelen van het gedrag van mensen in subsystemen. Specialisten in ‘human factors’ zijn betrokken bij het ontwerpen van mens-machine interfaces om zo de verwezenlijking van het doel van een systeem te optimaliseren. Ze zijn dus geïnteresseerd in de interactie tussen de menselijke component en de machine component van een systeem.
  2. Human factors wordt ook aangeduid als ergonomie of als mens-machine interactie. Ergonomie wordt voornamelijk gebruikt in Europa en human factors in de VS. 
  3. Beide hebben subsystemen die verantwoordelijk zijn voor input, verwerking en output. De mens krijgt voornamelijk zijn input door het visuele systeem en de computer krijgt input via een keyboard en andere apparaten. Het centrale verwerkingsunit van de computer (machine operaties) is analoog aan de cognitieve capaciteiten van het menselijke brein.
  4. De Tweede Wereldoorlog had een grote invloed op de human factor discipline. Er werd gekeken naar hoe de omgeving kon worden aangepast worden aan de mens.
  5. De mens produceert output via fysieke reacties, zoals het drukken op een knopje, terwijl de computer output presenteert op een display scherm:

  • Taak analyse. Hiermee werden de componenten van een taak bepaald. Een techniek die valt onder taak analyse is ‘time-and-motion study’.

  • Pay for performance. Hierbij is de compensatie die een werknemer krijgt afhankelijk van de hoeveelheid delen die hij voltooid heeft.

  • Personeelsselectie. Hierbij wordt de persoon uitgekozen die het beste bij een taak past.
