Een dwangmatige persoonlijkheidsstoornis (OCPS) is een mentale aandoening die wordt gekenmerkt door een excessieve preoccupatie met orde, perfectie en controle. Mensen met OCPS ervaren vaak intense angst en stress wanneer dingen niet volgens hun plan verlopen of wanneer ze het gevoel hebben dat ze de controle verliezen.
Wat zijn de belangrijkste symptomen van OCPS?
- Preoccupatie met orde en netheid: Mensen met OCPS besteden overdreven veel tijd en aandacht aan het ordenen en schoonmaken van hun omgeving. Ze kunnen ook erg kieskeurig zijn over hoe dingen eruit zien en hoe ze worden gedaan.
- Perfectionisme: Mensen met OCPS stellen extreem hoge eisen aan zichzelf en anderen. Ze kunnen perfectionisme gebruiken om uitstelgedrag te rechtvaardigen of taken te vermijden die ze als te moeilijk of te stressvol ervaren.
- Controlebehoefte: Mensen met OCPS hebben een sterke behoefte om alles onder controle te houden. Ze kunnen moeite hebben om taken te delegeren of anderen te vertrouwen.
- Angst voor fouten: Mensen met OCPS zijn bang om fouten te maken of iets verkeerd te doen. Deze angst kan leiden tot vermijdingsgedrag of dwangmatig controleren.
- Dwangmatige gedachten en handelingen: Mensen met OCPS kunnen obsessieve gedachten hebben over besmetting, schade of andere onaangename gebeurtenissen. Deze obsessies kunnen leiden tot dwangmatige handelingen, zoals herhaaldelijk handen wassen, controleren of rituelen uitvoeren.
Waarom is OCPS belangrijk?
OCPS is een ernstige mentale aandoening die een significante impact kan hebben op iemands leven. Het kan leiden tot problemen op het werk, in relaties en in het dagelijks leven.
Wat is de prevalentie van OCPS in Nederland?
OCPS komt voor bij ongeveer 2-3% van de Nederlandse bevolking. Het komt vaker voor bij vrouwen dan bij mannen.
Praktijkvoorbeeld
Een vrouw met OCPS kan uren per dag besteden aan het schoonmaken van haar huis. Ze kan bang zijn om haar huis te verlaten omdat ze bang is dat het vies wordt. Ze kan ook moeite hebben om taken op het werk te delegeren omdat ze bang is dat ze niet goed genoeg worden gedaan.
Wat is de behandeling van OCPS?
OCPS kan effectief worden behandeld met psychotherapie, medicatie of een combinatie van beide. Cognitieve gedragstherapie (CGT) is een effectieve vorm van psychotherapie voor OCPS. CGT helpt mensen met OCPS om hun obsessieve gedachten te herkennen en te veranderen en om hun dwangmatige gedrag te verminderen. Medicatie kan ook worden gebruikt om de symptomen van OCPS te verminderen, zoals angst en depressie.

- Behandeling kan lang duren en vereist veel inzet van de patiënt.
