In de organisatiepsychologie gaat het om de relatie tussen de werknemer en de sociale werkomgeving. De relatie met de organisatie als geheel, de onderdelen van de organisatie, waar onderdelene waarbinnen men werkt en het werken met collega's

Zo zijn organisatiepsychologen onlangs begonnen met het onderzoek naar een groene maatschappij, met name groene bedrijven. In de arbeidspsychologie gaat het om de relatie tussen kenmerken van het werk en het functioneren van werknemers, en dan met name hoe werknemer en werkgever zich daarij voelen
Bijvoorbeeld de werkdruk, de arbeidsethos, de mate van zelfstandig beslissingen kunnen nemen, de mate van verantwoordelijkheid nemen, de verantwoordelijkheid die men wel of niet aan kan.

Bij personeelspsychologie gaat het om de relatie tussen de motivatie en prestatie van een medewerker in een organisatie .
Bijvoorbeeld door het trainen van medewerkers, door het inzicht geven in de persoonlijke ontwikkeling of stagnering of bijvoorbeeld door specifieke werving en selectie.
