World Food Day 2018

World Food Day 2018 will mark the 73rd anniversary of FAO’s founding. Events organized by FAO country offices, governments, local authorities and other partners in over 130 countries across the world will call for increased action to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.

The official World Food Day (WFD) ceremony on 16 October at FAO headquarters will be an opportunity for leaders and key global players in the drive to achieve Zero Hunger, to remind the world that Zero Hunger is still possible if we can come together and take account of lessons learned, best practices and all evidence available.

What does this charity do?

The annual Empty Bowls Luncheon at the Corning Incorporated Headquarters is a fundraising event to raise awareness and funds for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. This year's luncheon will be held in December, date TBD.

For a donation of $25, you can enjoy a lunch of soup, salad, bread, dessert, and beverage, and leave with a handmade pottery bowl generously donated from 171 Cedar Arts Center and the Ithaca Clay School.

This event benefits those in our community who often don’t have enough to eat. Each ticket sold will provide 75 meals to our neighbors in need.

It's our mission to  work together to build and sustain hunger-free communities throughout the Southern Tier.

Fair Food Charity - International Food Fair

There are more intersting charities going on such as the International Food Fair all their proceeds go to charities around the world and home charities.

What is the International Food Fair?

The Parish of the Church of Our Saviour organises a large-scale charity event every year, which we call Food Fair. On the third Saturday in November every year (in 2018 this will be held on Saturday 17th November, our 50TH FOOD FAIR GOLDEN JUBILEE!!), our many different nationalities come together to prepare and sell their own national food specialities, wines, pastries etc. There is a huge bookstall and also handicraft, Fair Trade, jewellery and bric a brac stalls.

Each country or region takes pride in decorating the booths with national flags and colours and working together as a team. There are activities for children, such as face painting and other fun events. Our largest source of funds is from our raffle where local sponsors donate wonderful prizes. It is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to come together and volunteer their time and talents for a greater cause.

Not only does Food Fair promote community spirit, but it has a much deeper purpose, namely to take the proceeds of the event and offer them to a range of charitable organisations operating around the world. Our parishioners are the ones who identify suitable projects to be considered and these have included such things as farming ventures, building, women’s support, street children education and rehabilitation of homeless people, to name just a few.

Starts: 17th November 2018
