Intro

Backpacking or travelling in Palau?

  • Palau is a tropical paradise that is best known for its spectacular underwater world and breathtaking nature. This tiny island nation in the western Pacific Ocean consists of 340 islands with a beautiful mix of culture, history and biodiversity. Whether you are a nature lover, adventurer or just someone who enjoys peace and beauty, Palau offers something for everyone. But… It is not a cheap backpacking destination, so keep that in mind!
  • Activities to spot: dive in the Blue Corner; snorkel in Jellyfish Lake (yes really); explore the iconic Rock Islands; hike through the rainforest to the Ngardmau waterfall; visit Koror town; smear yourself with white mud in Milky Way Lagoon; discover traditional villages on Babeldaob Island; kayak through mangroves; dive on WWII wrecks; discover unique dishes.
  • Animal spotting: giant manta rays, saltwater crocodiles, sea turtles, napoleon fish, reef sharks, bats, tropical bird species, jellyfish in Jellyfish Lake, dolphins.
  • Food spotting: taro dumplings, red snapper, coconut ice cream, bamboo shoot curry, fresh coconuts, fried banana, vegetable stew.

Study in Palau?

  • There are certainly study opportunities in Palau, but they are somewhat limited. Interesting study programs could be marine biology, sustainable tourism and cultural studies.
  • Study city: Koror.
  • Language: English and Palauan.

Internship in Palau?

  • There are a few opportunities, especially in the field of marine research, construction and ecotourism.
  • Competencies: knowledge of nature conservation, working in multicultural teams, coming up with creative solutions.

Volunteer in Palau?

  • There are volunteer opportunities, particularly in marine conservation and research (including sharks), education and construction.

Working in Palau?

  • It is a developing country. It is a paradise for ecologists, who work in research and conservation (but often voluntarily), teachers are needed and there are construction jobs.

Working as a digital nomad in Palau?

  • Palau is not a popular destination for digital nomads due to high internet costs and limited infrastructure. However, you can enjoy a peaceful environment and beautiful nature.
  • Favorite locations: Koror and the surrounding resorts with WiFi.

Living in Palau?

  • Palau offers a relaxed lifestyle, incredible nature and biodiversity, but also high costs and limited access to facilities. Palau is a dream for those who love nature, tranquility and a simple lifestyle. It is not a destination for everyone, but if you are up for the adventure, Palau can steal your heart.
  • Expat community: small and mainly active in tourism and conservation. Safety: Very safe.
  • Be aware: Everything is imported so cost of living is high and life on a small island can be isolating.
  • Health insurance: There is a good hospital in Koror, but for complex cases you may need to be evacuated. So make sure you have your own good health insurance.
