Backpacking or traveling in Jordan?

  • Backpacking and traveling in Jordan offers a wonderful mix of historical sites like Petra and natural wonders like the Wadi Rum Desert. The country is known for its hospitable people, good infrastructure, and security, making it a popular destination for travelers.
  • Activity spotting: scuba diving and snorkeling in the Red Sea; hiking through the beautiful Wadi Rum desert; exploring the archaeology of Jesus' baptism; discovering cafes galleries and medieval mosques in Amman; dipping and floating in the Dead Sea; bird watching in the Azraq Oasis; admiring the lost city of Petra; visiting the ancient cities of Jerash, Madaba and Mount Nebo. 
  • Animal spotting: Arabian oryx, Nubian ibex, Arabian wolf, desert fox, golden eagle, Arabian partridge, dolphins, manatees, reef sharks, seahorses, etc. 
  • Food spotting: the national dish mansaf (lamb cooked in fermented yogurt sauce, maqluba (rice dish with meat and vegetables), falafel, hummus, shawarma, tabouleh and more delicacies.

  • Jordan has several good educational institutions that offer a wide range of study options. For example, you can study Arabic, or Middle Eastern political relations and diplomacy, as well as engineering, medicine, humanities and international relations. There are also many universities that offer opportunities for international exchanges. It is a good country to study, especially if you want to learn about the culture and history of the region. 
  • Study cities: Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, Aqaba, Madaba. 
  • Language: Arabic, but also many programs in English.

  • The quality of life in Jordan is comfortable, with modern facilities, good amenities, friendly people, delicious food. Also, costs are quite low compared to Western countries. 
  • It is a safe country for expats, with little crime and generally a stable political situation. 
  • It is also a family-friendly country, with many expat compounds with fine facilities, good education and many international schools. 
  • It is an Islamic country, but one of the most liberal. Do make sure you are aware of local customs and habits. 
  • The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and wet winters.
  • Health insurance: health care is of high quality with modern facilities, but make sure you have your own well-covered health insurance.

Travel in Jordan?

  • There is much to do and see in this Arab country. Jordan is bursting with historical sites, but you can also go there for an adventurous vacation. For example, go rock climbing or on a camel safari in the desert. Jordan also has much to offer for nature lovers. There are two large wildlife parks in the country where the almost extinct Oryx still lives in the wild. Snorkeling or diving in the Red Sea among beautiful coral is also worthwhile.
